Fall Book Sale This Week

(September 29, 2015) The days are getting shorter and it’s time to plan your winter reading. The Minerva Public Library fall book sale is ready to help. The fall book sale continues through this Saturday, October 3. This year’s book sale features, as always, a wide variety of books for all ages and interest and priced to sell at just 25 cents each. Special interest books are sold at special prices, but there are many bargains to be found. Civil War Ghosts--Monday, 7:00 pm

(September 29,2015) The Civil War was fought on hundreds of battlefields between the 1861 and 1865. This conflict resulted in the deaths of more than 700,000 Americans. During the war, as well as after, paranormal occurrences were recorded by soldiers and civilians alike. Join us in the Community Meeting Room on Monday, October 5, at 7:00 pm as area historian Harold George tells “Ghost Stories of the American Civil War.” A Civil War re-enactor and author, with over 25 years of experience presenting programs on the War, Mr. George will share contemporary ghostly tales as well as some of his own first-hand paranormal experiences while visiting Civil War battlefields. Additional insight is provided into 19^th century burial practices. This program will fascinate and astound all ages: it’s free and no registration is required.

Library Closed Monday, October 12

The library is closed Monday, October 12, in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. No library materials checked out from the Minerva Public Library are due on any day that the library is closed. The will open as usual on Tuesday, October 13, at 10:00 am.

Native Americans of Northeast Ohio--Monday, 7:00 pm

Ohio is full of important Native American historic sites from mound complexes, to major trails, to battlefields and rendezvous sites. Join us Monday, October 19, at 7:00 in the library’s Community Meeting Room for an informative talk on Native Americans in Northeast Ohio. Meghan Reed from the Massillon Museum will discuss the history of Native Americans in Northeast Ohio and the cultural legacy they left behind. A Registrar at the Museum, she will discuss the objects the Museum holds in its Native American collection and how those artifacts are preserved. This program is of interest to all ages, is free, and no registration is required.

Pre-School Costume Night--Monday, 6:30 pm

The library's Youth Department is hosting two opportunities for preschool children to wear their costumes and spook the library. Monday, October 26 at 6:30 pm is Costume Night for children 5 and under with a parent or caregiver. Karla Dennis provides stories, music, and a costume parade. Costume Day is our annual dress up event during both Book Beginnings and Story Time on Wednesday, October 28 beginning at 10:30 am. Registration is recommended for the Costume Night as we have a limited supply of preschool instruments. Call 330-868-4101 or stop by the Youth Services desk today.
