Keep an eye out for more information on Summer Reading 2023!

 

Sign up at the Youth Desk to explore the ocean this summer beginning June 6! Complete the Reading Rewards challenges in your booklet to earn two rewards: the Candy Grab and something special from our prize cart.

Keep an eye out for these Summer Programs in June and July…

  • Maker Mondays @ 6–7:30pm:
    • For youth of all ages, but youth under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration opens 2 weeks before each program, and is advised.
      • June 6: Seashell Dishes
      • June 13: Treasure Pouches
      • June 20: Socktapuses
      • June 27: Ocean Terrariums
      • July 11: Jellyfish Paper Lanterns
      • July 18: Crayon Resist Shark Painting
      • July 25: Sand Art
  • Cupcake Wars @ 2pm on Thursday, June 9 (incoming 6th-12th graders, registration advised)
  • Fun Fridays from 1-4pm on Fridays from June 10-July 29 (youth of all ages)
  • Dungeons & Dragons Campaign on Fridays from 1-4pm from June 17-July 29 (incoming 9th-12th graders, registration required)
  • Stark Parks Animal Visit from 2-3pm on Thursday, June 23 (families with youth of all ages)
  • Cosplay Club @ 2pm on Thursday, June 23 (incoming 6th-12th graders, registration advised) & Cosplay Club @2pm on Tuesday, August 9
  • Pirate Party from 2-3:30pm on Thursday, July 7 (geared towards families with preschool and elementary youth, but youth of all ages are welcome)
  • Ohio Ocean Foundation Presents: Corals from 2-3pm on Thursday, July 14 (geared towards families with elementary age youth, but youth of all ages are welcome)
  • Meet the Author: Rebecca Elkins @2pm on Thursday, July 21 (geared towards elementary age children, but youth of all ages are welcome)
  • End-of-Summer Reading Beach Party on Wednesday, July 27 from 1-2:30pm (ages 6+)

Note: Youth under 9 years must be accompanied by an adult to programs. To register for a program, call (330) 868-4101 or visit the Youth Services Desk. Registration typically opens 2 weeks before any given event.

 

Storytime and Elementary Explorers:

Enjoy stories, songs, and other learning fun beginning June 8! No registration required—just show up on at the library on Wednesdays at 11 AM. Storytime is for families with young children, and is held on the library back lawn. Elementary Explorers is for children ages 6 and up.

 

Animal Reading Friends (ARF):

Sign up to read with one of our gentle Animal Reading Friends (ARF!) in this program that pairs school age children with dogs to improve their reading skills and foster a lifelong love of reading. Runs Thursdays, 11am-12pm,  June 9-30.

 

Sensory SPOT in June & July:

Visit our Sensory SPOT for hands-on learning fun any time during open hours! All ages are welcome, but minors must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Prize Drawings:

  • Kings Island Tickets (May 31-June 20):
    • Youth and their families can check out items in Youth Services between May 31-June 20 for a chance to win 4 free Kings Island tickets!
  • Kindle Fire (July 1-July 31)
    • Incoming kindergarteners through 12th graders can check out items in Youth Services between July 1-31 for a chance to win a free Kindle Fire!
