Brown Water, Black Ships: The Civil War on the Mississippi, Tuesday, 7:00 pm

(March 16, 2014) It was in the Western campaigns, many historians argue, that the Civil War was truly won.  A major part of the Union military effort there was the unlikely, ungainly, but powerful fleet of river warships that helped Grant, Sherman and others win victories and fame.Join us this Tuesday, March 18, as William F.B. Vodrey presents an exciting talk about the Civil War on the Mississippi that will interest all ages.  This program is one of several the  Library has scheduled to complement the traveling exhibit Ohio and the Civil War: 150 Years Later hosted by the library through March 26. 

Dissent North and South--Civil War Program Tuesday, March 25

(March 19, 2014)  Civil War battles and campaigns are studied in great detail and discussed endlessly.  But what about the home front?  Did dissension, North or South, undermine the war effort?  Not everyone at home believed that the war was just or even that it could be won.  Ohio’s own Clement Vallandigham ran for Governor as a peace candidate.  Join us at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 25, as Professor Jay Case from Malone University sheds light on this little-known aspect of the Civil War.   This program is the final event of a series that the  Library scheduled to complement the traveling exhibit Ohio and the Civil War: 150 Years Later hosted by the library through March 26.

Spring Book Sale Begins Saturday

(March 19, 2014)   It's time for the library's spring book sale.  Hundreds of gently used donated and discarded books for all ages and interests will be sold at very reasonable prices.  This time the sale includes a large number of children's books and many books on tape for adults.  The sale runs from Saturday, March 22 through Saturday, March 29, and new items are added every day.  Proceeds support library programs and the purchase of new materials for you to check out and enjoy. 

Book Sale This Week

(March 26, 2014)  The library spring book sale continues through Saturday with a great selection of books at attractive prices.  This spring we also have a large selection of audiobooks on cassette for adults for sale for only 25 cents each.   Don't forget that this Saturday, March 29, all remaining items will be sold for $1 a bag.  So stop by and stock up for your summer reading.

Lego Day Fun

Love Legos?  Now's your chance to play! On Saturday, April 19 th from 2:00-3:30 pm, children ages 6 and up (and their parents/caregivers) are encouraged to stretch their imaginations and build to their hearts content with our Leogs. Bring your creativity, and we will provide the rest! Space is limited and this program ALWAYS fills up fast, so please call 330-868-4101 to sign up.
