The game's afoot! Tuesday, November 13, at 7:00 pm, Join actor Jim Knight as he shares the background and cultural influence of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous and legendary detective, Sherlock Holmes, and performs dramatic pieces from some of Holmes’ classic mysteries. This program is of interest to all ages and no registration is required.
Join us Tuesday, November 6, at 7:00 pm as McKinley Museum Archivist, Mark Holland, presents World War I: Stark County's Contribution to Global Patriotism. In this program you meet many of the veterans who answered the call to defend our country. You will meet Nurse: Sylvia Riley, of Canton, Ohio who entered the service October 28, 1918, and served at Camp Travis, Texas. Learn more about the beginnings of the American Red Cross and how it helped provide comfort to countless Stark County Citizens. The industries were converted to create fighting machines for the allies’ victory. Find out how Gilliam Manufacturing took advantage of their talent of working leather and created a gas mask for the war effort. Liberty Loans drive was in full swing to fund the Great War, becoming so successful they held a funeral and buried “It Can’t Be Done” in the sidewalk of the Stark County Courthouse. Finally experience the life of a soldier leaving home, training to go overseas, actually going “Over There!” and coming home again. Soldiers like Corporal Paul Muckley of Waynesburg, Ohio for whom this program is dedicated. This illustrated talk is suitable for all ages and no registration is required.
Join us Tuesday, October 23, at 7:00 pm in the Community Meeting Room for the story of Gaines Snyder, prisoner of war during WW II, presented by his son, Mike Snyder. Gaines Snyder was living the good life aboard a US Navy Submarine Tender, the USS Canopus, when the Japanese attacked the Philippines and made him a prisoner of war for three years and 59 days. He was one of the lucky ones, though, because most of his shipmates never made it home. This tale of determination and survival will be of interest to all ages.
Thrill to Ohio’s Archeological Wonders on Tuesday, October 16, at 7:00 pm. Lynette Reiner from the McKinley will present this well-illustrated program about the prehistoric treasures under our feet. This program is a treat for all ages and Lynette will bring along some small fossils as well.
The Minerva Public Library seeks an energetic, courteous, self-starter with a good eye for detail to work as a Library Associate I in the library’s Adult Services Department.
