(June 23, 2015) This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the library is pleased to honor the experiences of one veteran. Join us Monday, June 29, at 7:00 pm in the Community Meeting Room as Mandy Altimus Pond presents Forced March: From the Bulge to Berchtesgaden. Ms. Pond, Archivist, at the Massillon Museum, will detail the experiences of her grandfather, Major John J. Mohn of Akron. Major Mohn was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was
forced to march 1,200 miles across Germany and Poland during the final months of the war. He was liberated three times and recaptured twice. Ms. Pond and her family have published Major Mohn’s memoir, illustrated with some of his own photos, and copies of the book will be available for purchase. This program is free and no registration is required.
