(December 14, 2012) The community may be dismayed to find that library has had one of the two large oak trees in front of the building cut down. During tree trimming this summer we discovered a split at the main fork of the larger oak. This split bisected the trunk and was already 2-3 feet long. During the high winds a few weeks ago, the split lengthened quite a bit over the course of a couple of days. The crown of that tree was large and if split off from the trunk would have brought down the power lines along Lynnwood, or broken out the library's front widows, or both. We have left the stump in place in hopes of having a skilled carver create a sculpture from it in the spring.
